When a Water Heater Means More Than Just Hot Water

Mike and Barbara met when they were 15, married three years later, and have now been married for 45 years. Mike lost both his legs after he was hit by a drunk driver and is Barbara’s primary caregiver as she is in the 2nd stage of dementia and has diabetes.

When their water heater went out weeks ago, they didn’t know where to turn but they knew they were determined to age in place, which meant finding a free resource. They found us, and we installed a new water heater for them for free so they can stay in their home.

As the population of people 60+ grows, stories of wanting to age in place but not being able to due to unsafe home conditions will increase. Help couples like Mike and Barbara age in place together by donating below.
