Albert & Patricia

Albert and Patricia are homeowners in the Lincoln Village neighborhood. In fact, they consider themselves the last original homeowners from when they bought the home over 49 years ago. Since then, the neighborhood has become mostly rental properties. They live with their two cats and often host their grandkids. In the winter, Albert volunteers as Santa at local events and shops. RM initially met Albert and Patricia when canvasing the Lincoln Village neighborhood in 2021 where Block Build MKE was taking place at the time. Albert and Patricia applied for the program and on the day of the event, volunteers helped install grab bars, handrails, a walk in shower and a few additional critical repairs.

Unfortunately, Patricia suffered a severe back injury which has made basic tasks like showering a challenge. As Patricia awaits a surgery, she has to use a wheelchair which has made navigating their home nearly impossible. The entrances to their home are both met with very high and steep steps which made going in and out house dangerous for the both of them. Albert said he remembered the services RM provided in 2021 and thought it was worth giving us a call.  During a home visit with Albert and Patricia, we discovered she had not gone outside on her own in over a year.  

One of our contractors extended the deck at their back door and installed a lift that Patricia can operate by herself. Patricia was overwhelmed with joy and shared that when the weather is nice she just sits out on the deck just to relax and enjoy the sunset.
