Janice's Running Water

Janice is 69 and has lived in her home for 28 years. She loves her neighborhood and has never dreamed of moving. One morning, she went to wash her dishes and discovered her water wasn’t working. Living alone and not being aware of the resources available to her, she resorted to the only solution she could think of—using the water from her dog pool. She ended up using the dog pool water for two weeks for everything, from washing up to flushing the toilet.

When we arrived at her home to fix her water, we found that mice had chewed through the wires in the circuit box, affecting the pressure switch. After calling in an electrician to repair the wires and check the voltage, Janice’s water was back up and running. She said she was reminded to not take basic things like water or electricity for granted.

Unfortunately, this is a more common problem than many realize. Every week we talk with homeowners that go without water or electricity for prolonged periods of time. For those that can’t afford to pay for the necessary repairs, they only have one place to go: Revitalize Milwaukee. We are the only provider of free home repairs in Southeast Wisconsin, and for many, the last line of defense before serious health issues, house condemnation, foreclosure, or even death. Donate today to ensure low-income homeowners near you can stay safe in their homes.
